6 Ways to Make Money From Your Referrals

You can very easily spend thousands of dollars on advertising. If your business is online; paid classifieds, search engine optimization, paid email. If you are offline; TV advertising, radio ads, newspaper ads. The list is endless. All slowly sucking your bank account dry! However, there is a far better type of ongoing advertising, that by referrals. Although this “word of mouth” advertising is so obvious just check the steps below to see if you are using all of them.
1) Current Customers: When you have finished a successful project or have sold a product thank your customers. Tell them that you look forward to dealing with them again. Ask them if they can relay your details to their contacts.
2) Previous Customers: Do not overlook the importance of past customers. Contact them every now and then, showing interest in them-not you! They may pass someones name onto you.
3) Family and close friends: Get these people that are close to you to ‘talk you up’ to others. However, make sure they understand what you do so they can give examples if asked.
4) Professional Associations: Recently all networking seems to be based around ‘blogs’. Do not forget the ‘old school’ of trade associations, clubs, chambers of commerce. Being an active member of these nearly always gets you more work, whether a Barrister or a Bricklayer.
5) Free Events: If you have the chance to give a free presentation, be part of a charity event etc try to give your support. You will do some good to other people and will help your business profile at the same time. Just make sure that you are not obviously just selling your product or service.
6) Do A Good Job: Really this needs no explanation-but do not just do exactly what you have been paid for, ‘go the extra mile’.
You are no doubt doing pieces of some of these strategies already. Try to gradually introduce all 6 and see your advertising costs go down and your profits increase.
