The screen is usually a scrolling message board, electronic billboards, projection screens and LCD or plasma display panel. The sign is administered remotely using a computer or any other which are located remotely. Digital signage offers higher return on investment compared to traditional printed signs.
Even though digital signage has marked its presence few years back but due to its high cost it remained confined to limited usage. Development of digital signage software has encouraged its usage and since then it has recorded a phenomenal growth in the market place.
Walmart and Best Buy were the prominent stores who have made optimum utilization of this technology. Digital signage that is a form of out-of-home advertising in which content and messages are displayed on television screens with the aim of delivering targeted messages to specific locations at specific times.
The content exhibited on the digital signage screens can range from simple text and still images to full-motion video, with or without audio.
The matching of digital signage software to a particular requirement or problem is referred as digital signage solution. They have enabled the operation of the hardware and the control of the content possible with least training.
Digital signage technology is mainly used in Church signs, in schools, and in government offices to convey messages. Latest hardware that is proficient of storing video and audio programs that have been downloaded to a personal computer can be used to produce virtually any kind of display on the sign.
Despite several advantages it has yet to become a major public medium as businesses still deter from adopting digital signage technology, since it is comparatively latest kind of advertising and suffers from uncertain ROI (Return on Investment).
